Reception is the final year of the Foundation Stage and the beginning of your child’s school journey. Children learn new skills and develop independence through playing, exploring and being active. They establish core skills in reading, writing and numeracy in readiness for the transition to Year 1.
Teaching and learning are guided by the children’s interests; allowing flexibility to capture imaginations, follow dreams and take next steps so that every child can achieve their best.
Topics follow a 2 year cycle:
- Autumn Term: Getting to Know You/Celebrations
- Spring Term: ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’, ‘Going Places’, ‘Where the Wild Things Are’, ‘Ahoy There!’
- Summer Term: ‘How Does Your Garden Grow?’, ‘The Ugly Bug Ball’, ‘Superheroes’ and ‘Once Upon a Time’.
At the end of the Summer Term, Reception enjoy a trip to the woods.
RKH: class teachers Kim Hart (Mon to Thurs) and Wendy Roe (Friday) supported by Jane Jackson and Esther Weisskopf

On occasions there will be takeaway tasks linked to the EYFS curriculum.
